In praise of the white shirt

One garment for every occasion. On the piece that survives every trend cycle.

Nobody has ever regretted buying a good white shirt. It is the rare garment that is both uniform and statement, that works with a suit and with nothing much at all.

The details that matter are small. A collar that stands up on its own. A placket that lies flat. A cuff wide enough to fold back twice. Poplin for the office, oxford for everything else.

A white shirt is the one thing I can put on without thinking, and the one thing I think about most.
